Election day was a commodity
_that pundits peddled to the frenzied mob;
_the press was bent on the vulgarity
_of Trump’s campaign, though that was not their job.
For weeks the so-called analysts would spin
_sales-pitch interpretations which forecast
_that Hillary would do the Donald in
_and drive a stake through his campaign at last.
The race for office had become a game
_and we were played till play had made us sick
_Small wonder, then, that 8 November came
_upon a wearied body politic!
We cast our farewells from the ballot box
and steered our ship of state into the rocks.
